A 44-year-old man from Dublin, Calif., was shot dead Saturday night in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, officials said Monday.

San Francisco police said they were alerted to the incident by a ShotSpotter, a device designed to detect a gunshot that went off at 8:19 p.m. on the 700 block of Missouri Avenue.

According to police reports, officers went to the scene and found no casualties, but learned that a man with a gunshot wound had been taken to a local hospital just 10 minutes after ShotSpotter was activated. The person was confirmed dead at the hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was shot in an area of Potrero Hill where gun activity was confirmed, according to the police department.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the SFPD tip line at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411 and start the text message with “SFPD.” No need to share a name.

San Francisco has recorded four murders since the beginning of the year, according to the police crime dashboard. The agency did not immediately respond to a request asking whether Saturday night’s shooting was included in this number.
