of Dead Space Remakes aren’t the only ones returning to the franchise’s roots this year.His enterprising one soul seems to have developed his PS1 style Dead Space Even better, there’s a playable demo.
Excellent Dead Space The remake rekindled public interest in the series, so this “demake,” created by game designer Fraser Brumley, is probably a compelling piece of PS1 junk if you’ve been craving more necromorph dismembering action. If you have sides, it’s worth checking out.
Playable from Brumley’s itch.io page (opens in new tab) , Dead Space The demake features accurate PS1-era visuals, complete with affine texture mapping and the infamously weird warping that comes with it. There’s also some modern flair here, such as the series’ iconic amputation of limbs and support for multiple control styles, including mouse and keyboard.

These demakes have broad appeal that goes beyond nostalgia. Of course, that’s a strong factor, but arguably more important is a glimpse of what these franchises might look like if they launched on fifth-generation hardware. Bloodborne PSX, In particular, it looks just like FromSoftware’s output back then.Especially that spooky dungeon crawl King’s Field series.
Demakes also seem like a great way to learn the art of game development. As Fraser Brumley says: Dead Space On the demake page, “This project was primarily a way to learn the aesthetics of Unreal and the PS1, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we put together in the future.”
And if that means we can get a more substantial version of this demo, or another popular modern IP, it excites me.
