Apple has released a new tool for developers building apps for the App Store to help them compare their app metrics against those of their industry peers.
A new Peer Group Benchmark dashboard has been added to App Analytics in App Store Connect. It’s a platform for developers to manage their apps across all Apple platforms including her iOS and macOS.
This comes as part of having an Apple developer account, but it’s not as robust as dedicated peer benchmarking tools, so it may not be enough to take business away from them yet.

“Peer group benchmarks provide powerful new insights across the customer journey so you can better understand what works well for your app and spot opportunities for improvement,” according to the Apple Developer website. Update posted on (opens in new tab) read.
To uncover the most relevant competitors, Apple says it considers categories, business models, and download numbers.
It also promises to maintain a certain degree of privacy using “industry-leading differential privacy technology,” thus hiding the performance of competing apps.
As part of the broader App Store Connect environment, developers can use new metrics to take action and improve conversion rates, revenue, crash rates, user retention, and more.
There are many other uses for our developer platform, such as testing different elements of our product pages, collecting feedback on beta versions, and providing in-app events.
