The police investigation stems from an allegation by a woman, identified only as Effie, who said Hammer raped her for four hours on April 24, 2017. She told reporters in March 2021 at a virtual press conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred.
Effie, who met Effie on Facebook in 2016 when she was 20, said: “I was in total shock and couldn’t believe that someone I loved did that to me. I tried to justify his actions. I tried very hard to do that, but I even responded to him in a way that didn’t reflect my true feelings.”
At the time, Hammer’s attorney, Andrew Bretler, denied Effie’s allegations, saying that all of the actors’ sexual encounters were “completely consensual, pre-discussed, agreed upon and reciprocal.”
Hammer recently addressed the allegations in detail for the first time during a large-scale interview with Air Mail, denying all allegations made against him, but said, “People were treated more than they should have been treated. I was treated badly,” he said.
