On April Fool’s Day, Asus announced it would enter the gaming handheld market with the Asus ROG Ally. ) Ayaneo 2.
There are still plenty of details about the ROG Ally that Asus hasn’t revealed yet, but our own Allisa James was lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the new handheld. Enough time to write an initial review of the Asus ROG Ally. You can check it now.
However, the price and release date (and exact performance stats) haven’t been released by Asus, so there’s a lot floating around right now about ROG Ally, which has its own review unit and will take its time to get it right Tested.

We can’t rule out a surprise May 11th launch, but don’t get too excited. At the very least, we should be able to give you a concrete release date within the next few days.

(Image credit: Future) Asus has yet to officially disclose the price of the ROG Ally gaming handheld. May 11th However, one Asus executive confirmed that the price will definitely be “under $1,000.”
It’s not the most reassuring statement, especially since Steam Deck’s most expensive model only costs $649. I don’t know exactly how many or how many.
It’s safe to assume we’ll see at least two versions with two different AMD processors we know are available for Arai. It means it could be as well, but we expect to see two models around $600 and $800. It’s more expensive than its competitors, but it’s also much more powerful.
Asus ROG Ally: Specs (Image credit: AMD) The other sections of this breakdown may be a little less detailed at the moment, but do We know a lot about the specs that the Asus ROG Ally boasts. Let’s start with the heart of this handheld, the processor.
AMD recently announced a new Z-series of APUs split into Z1 and Z1 Extreme. These system-on-chips (SoCs) use AMD’s Zen 4 CPU architecture and RDNA 3 integrated graphics. Core/16 thread CPU and 12 core iGPU.
The 8-core difference in RDNA 3 onboard graphics means that there is a fairly large performance difference between the two chips, even though the difference in total cache memory is very small (22MB to 24MB). As the chart below shows, AMD believes both chips can crack 60fps in most games at low settings of 1080p using Radeon Super Resolution 2 upscaling technology.
Beyond the processor, ROG Ally is known to feature up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM (the same found in thin and light machines among the best gaming laptops) and up to 512GB of fast PCIe 4.0. Storage – No slow eMMC drives found in the cheapest models of Steam Deck.
The display is also much better than the Steam Deck. It’s a 1080p panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 7ms response time, boasting a maximum brightness of 500 nits compared to Deck’s 400. Sound is handled by a pair of front-firing stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos.
Ally weighs 608g. It’s heavier than the Nintendo Switch, but slightly lighter than the Steam Deck. And, of course, the sleek design features his RGB lighting around the analog sticks and numerous holes for cooling.
Finally, Ally is fully compatible with existing ROG peripherals, so you can easily sync it with Asus headsets and gamepads while docked. Can also connect to Asus XG Mobile (opens in new tab) Use an external GPU to power it with RTX 4090 equivalent graphics power.
The bottom line here is that the Asus ROG Ally will probably destroy all other gaming handhelds currently on the market when it comes to performance.
