Asus ROG Ally pricing has been leaked further, this time for a lower spec model of its Steam Deck rival.
SnoopyTech was responsible for the original price leak, claiming that the high-end ROG Ally with Z1 Extreme processor (and 512GB storage) will cost $699.99.
The Verge says it corroborates the latest leaks with Roland Quandt, which showed (again) material from the tech site backing up the $599.99 price claim. Seemingly both of these leakers are working from the same source.
These leaks support each other, but a little bit of skepticism should be added here. By the way, the theoretical release date is June 13th.
Analysis: Does the $100 price difference make sense? What’s the difference between these models with a purported $100 price difference? Well, the top-of-the-line ROG Ally’s Z1 Extreme processor has 8 cores (12 threads) compared to the standard AMD Z1’s 6 cores (12 threads). With 16 cores (16 threads) and integrated RDNA 3 graphics, the Z1 Extreme has 12- Z1 offers 4 cores.
That’s a pretty amazing gap on the GPU front, with 3x the core count of the Z1 Extreme. Also, according to AMD’s own marketing bump for his Z1 chip, the Extreme boasts 8.6 teraflops of graphics performance. This overwhelms Steam decks. is 1.6 teraflops).
Of course, it’s not all about raw teraflops. AMD also provides some gaming benchmarks to show it. In short, in some games the Z1 is pretty close to the Z1 Extreme, but in other more demanding titles it’s a pretty big gap. (As AMD points out, the GPU is sometimes the limiting factor, not the memory bandwidth).
Still, if this is the right pricing, it’s silly to boot with twice the storage without paying an extra $100 to get this faster CPU (which is quite fast in some cases) It seems that there are
I heard that the Z1 Extreme-toting ROG Ally was priced at $699.99, so I expected the Z1 model to cost around $499.99. Given the relative hardware specs here, it doesn’t really make sense that they’re priced so close.

As The Verge observes, it’s unclear if the company is planning another low-end handheld, much like Valve does with its baseline Steam Deck, which cuts corners with tiny eMMC drives instead of proper SSDs. In that case, Asus may have to leave some room in the price range to drop that model.
Or perhaps Asus fully expects the top model to sell out and believes it can still shift the base Z1 ROG Ally for $599.99 which is definitely true. Please remember one thing.
Valve’s portable console costs $530 for the 256GB model, but suffers from a decidedly lackluster CPU engine and incompatibility with some Windows games. Of course, Ally is running Windows 11, so there are no compatibility issues. (It’s also worth noting that VideoCardz believes Asus plans to give Ally his three months’ worth of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for free).
Additionally, the price of $699.99 could be wrong and the price could be higher. Frankly, it was a shock when it was revealed, so it might end up at $799.99. Even if is currently technically correct, Asus could make a last-minute price adjustment.
Either way, we’ll see if Asus can pick up the Steam Deck killer anytime soon, but exact pricing aside, battery life and how the Z1’s enhanced performance translates into longevity. You also need to know how it affects your ROG Ally when you’re on the go or when you’re gaming.
