The new BMW Head-Up Display (HUD), called BMW Panoramic Vision, will go into production in 2025, along with the first Neue Klasse models, including the Sports Activity Vehicle and the 3 Series Sedan.
Neue Klasse, referring to BMW’s 1960s models, is a new technology platform for OEMs currently in development that will set new standards in the digitization, sustainability and design of electric vehicles (EVs), according to a BMW news release. Set.
The HUD is projected across the width of the windshield, creating a unique interaction and information plane for all occupants.
Frank Webber, Member of the Development Board at BMW AG, said: “The driver decides what information to display in his field of view or to allow all occupants to see the entire content. Revolutionary projection and a more clearly structured cockpit brings impressive new spaces and driving sensations. We take our proven ‘eyes on the road, hands on the wheel’ commitment to a new level. ”
The display presents relevant information for both driver and passenger in a dark coated area at the lower edge of the windshield with higher light intensity and contrast. BMW says this creates a very sharp image that is always visible across the width of the windshield.
An on-board computer with a digital display first appeared in the BMW 7 Series in the 1980s. His first BMW iDrive, launched in 2001, featured fewer switches and buttons than any previous control system and a modern, clean interior, says the release. Shortly thereafter, the first series production of the BMW HUD display began.
BMW also unveiled the i Vision Dee, a full EV with voice, facial expressions and “true personality” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this year. Along with the enhanced HUD, OEMs showed how i Vision Dee can be used for display control design and future immersive user experiences.
“This study demonstrates the fusion of the real and virtual worlds by turning the windshield into a projection surface,” said the release. “This technology will become a reality in series production for Neue’s Classe with the introduction of BMW Panoramic Vision.”
This concept will allow drivers to change the exterior color of their vehicle at any time using E Ink technology. It also uses four sensors to project the augmented reality scene into the full virtual world and onto the windshield. BMW called Dee “as smart as it is soulful” and said on its website that the futuristic concept “creates the feeling of being fully seen and understood”. Satisfaction with life seamlessly together. The friendliness of being able to communicate with or without words. This technology is more than just a device. It’s Dee. ”
On March 15, BMW announced that its main growth drivers this year will be all-electric BEVs and models in the high-end premium segment, including the new BMW 7 Series, the latest BMW X7 and the Rolls-Royce model family. BMW said vehicles in its segment are expected to grow in his mid-double-digit percentage range during the current financial year, and BEV models are likely to grow in his high-double-digit percentage range. increase. Overall, the BMW Group expects a slight increase in deliveries to customers worldwide in this segment this year.
Last year, BMW’s BEV sales more than doubled to 215,000. There are already about 10 fully electric models on the market, with a rapid growth trajectory expected in the next few years after 2024. At least one of his five new BMW cars will have an all-electric drivetrain by next year. By 2025, one in four new car deliveries will be BEV. By 2026, about 1 in 3 of his will be fully electric.
And Neue Klasse “has the potential to further accelerate the market penetration of e-mobility with its compelling product offerings,” says BMW.
“Depending on market conditions in the late 2000s, the development of raw material prices and availability, and the pace of building a comprehensive charging infrastructure, the BMW Group expects the share of BEVs to exceed 50%. 2030 ahead of the year,” said BMW.
The BMW Group aims to have 2 million fully electric vehicles on the market by 2025 and 10 million fully electric vehicles by 2030.
Chairman of the Management Board of BMW AG, Oliver Gypsse, said: “With this combination, we are well positioned to respond precisely to different developments in different parts of the world.”
The start of standard production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, with at least six Neue Klasse models produced worldwide during the first 24 months.
Based on a vehicle architecture designed for uncompromising electric drivetrains (BEV only) and featuring a new design language, the Neue Klasse is characterized by three central aspects. The newly developed high-performance generation of electric drivetrains and batteries significantly improves efficiency and enables new levels of sustainability throughout the lifecycle. The underlying technology is the basis for the entire BMW model range.
At the IAA Mobility 2023 in September in Munich, BMW will share next steps and new details about the Neue Klasse, including new control and information elements.
BMW announced last week that the eighth-generation 5 Series will debut in the coming months.
According to BMW’s release, the new model is more dynamic and comfortable than ever with a fresh interpretation of its signature elegant and sporty design. The new 5 will feature the BMW Operating System 8.5 with BMW Curved Display, innovative digital services and, for the first time, a purely electric drivetrain in the shape of the BMW i5.
A flexible powertrain architecture means that the new BMW 5 Series can be offered in all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants alongside highly efficient internal combustion engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology.
At the BMW Group Annual Conference 2023, Zipse said the 5 Series will also be available as an all-electric BMW M Performance model.
“The all-electric BMW i4 M50 shows how BMW perfectly combines dynamic performance and electric mobility. An all-electric performance model from GmbH will also be part of the new BMW 5 Series range.”
With the arrival of the BMW i5 sedan in the premium executive segment, BMW continues to systematically expand its all-electric range. The global launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will begin in his October.
