US startup Chompi Club has announced a new chromatic sampler and tape music instrument. CHOMPI is a highly portable sampler that incorporates a tape looper and multiple FX in addition to a microphone for capturing sound. With big blocky controls, non-traditional workflows, and up to 6 hours of sample time, Chompi Club says it’s designed to open up the world of sound design to a wider and more diverse audience. The instrument can play up to 7 sounds at once and has 14 slots for storing and recalling samples. Its stereo tape loop engine is designed to make it easy to grab sounds and loop them on-the-fly, with a single knob controlling scrubbing, playback speed, and direction. It features USB-C connectivity, two filters, tape saturation and granular delay. According to Chompi Club, his UX for synths includes additional easter eggs that can be discovered through playing and experimenting. The company was founded by Chelsea and Tobias Hendrickson and has been running modular synth education classes for about ten years. His 5% of the proceeds from the new sampler will fund educational projects and donate instruments to underprivileged communities. Check out the CHOMPI demo.
CHOMPI was originally kick starter, priced at $499. The campaign starts on March 28th. After that it will be $599. The first unit he will ship in November.
