Google has rolled out Chrome 113 to its stable channel. This includes faster AV1 video encoding for video conferencing calls. WebGPU will eventually be rolled out to all users with other enhancements.
Chrome 113 stable is now available for Linux, macOS, and Windows. This new version has 15 security fixes and various new features.
– Faster AV1 video encoding by incorporating the libaom 3.6 release, which greatly improves the performance of CPU-based AV1 video encoding. Google Meet has been tested with AV1 up to 40 kbps. Any WebRTC app can take advantage of these faster AV1 encodings.
– CSS overflow inline and overflow block media features.
– CSS update media feature.
– Adds a linear() easing function to allow linear interpolation between many points.
– Support for CSS image-set() as a type to specify a range of image options.
– WebGPU support is now enabled by default! The successor to WebGL for high-performance 3D graphics on the web, WebGPU is on by default.
