Darien defeated Northwest Catholic in men’s ice hockey

Blanca and Tyler Wrekin each scored twice in the blue wave and trailed 2-0 in the first period.

The Northwest Catholics’ first period goals were both power plays, with Nikita Asyan scoring 5–3 and Easton Gates scoring on man advantage.

Requin cut the deficit in half when he scored a single pass from Matt Fisher with 34.9 seconds remaining in the first frame.

In the second period, Darien scored goals from Lequin and Blanca in the final 1:52 to take a 3-2 lead.

Lions’ Ethan Porter equalized with 3:42 remaining, but Branca put Darien ahead with a feed from Tommy Holland.

Newington coach wins 400th title

The Newington Co-operative defeated the Eastern Connecticut Eagles, 7-3, in boys’ hockey at the Newington Ice Arena on Saturday. It was the 400th career win for Noreasters coach Dave Halakiwicz.

Harackiewicz has coached Newington and its cooperatives for 30 years. He has his career record of 400-243-17 in his three CIAC Division III championships, including last year.
