Emporia High basketball team splits at Great Bend

The Emporia High basketball team split with Great Bend Friday.

The Lady Spartans went undefeated all season, going 45-39 at Great Bend.

Emporia High trailed 22-19 at halftime and managed to take a 30-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Lady Spartans led by as many as nine in the quarter.

Coach Carolyn Dorsey says she made adjustments defensively at halftime.


Rebecca Snyder leads Emporia High with 19 points. Addie Kirmer had her 12 and Lexsey Dewitt had a career-high her 10. Lady Spartans are 6-0 this season.

The Emporia High Boys maintained an 11-point lead in the second half and saw Great Bend erase it with a 66–65 defeat.

The Spartans led 23-17 at halftime and maintained a 42-36 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Emporia High swept him 30-23 in his final eight minutes.

Coach Lee Baldwin says The Great Bend has found a way to break through Sparta’s 1-3-1 zone.

River Peters leads Emporia High with 20 points. Cooper Wreck scored 17 and Sheldon Stewart scored 10.

The Spartans are 5-1 this season.

Both girls and boys at Emporia High School are off until January 3rd when they host Hayden in the Centennial League opener.
