Microsoft wants to make it even easier for you to find recently accessed files using Microsoft 365 Apps for Android. You don’t even have to open the files from a Microsoft app to view them.
of announcement (opens in new tab) by Sudheender Srinivasan, Product Manager on the Microsoft 365 Mobile Apps team, introduced a revised feature designed to make viewing files more efficient.
while being specific office software Apps for tools like Word and Excel also remain important for on-the-go editing, and the company’s recently rebranded Microsoft 365 app should serve as the primary place to find work.
Recent files in Microsoft 365
Srinivasan explained that the Recent tab shows files recently accessed by Microsoft apps, as well as files accessed by third-party apps like Whatsapp and Gmail.
This update is offered first to Microsoft Insiders. Specifically, it is available for Android apps starting with version 16.0.16227.20076. We are also rolling out gradually, so some Insiders may not have access yet.
There is at least one known issue for that. In other words, it may simply not work. Srinivasan explains:
“You may have to close and reopen the app several times before the functionality works as expected.”
There is currently no information about availability on iOS, but if testing is successful, it could be rolled out to more platforms, including both smartphones and tablets.
