SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — A U.S. congressman from Florida, who was seriously injured in a tree-cutting accident in Sarasota, said he was discharged from the hospital on Saturday and is recovering at home.

Rep. Greg Steube said in a tweet late at night that he was “continued to be blessed with prayers and support from our friends, family and community.”

His office added, “Next week, I will provide an update on how my recovery will affect my return to Washington.”

A tweet posted on the congressman’s official profile on Thursday said Steube “was pushed about 25 feet off a ladder while chopping tree branches on his Sarasota property” the day before.

Another tweet said he spent the night in the ICU after suffering serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Steube also thanked staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for the “excellent care” they received on Saturday.

A Republican, Steube was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and is just entering his third term. He represents all of Sarasota and Charlotte counties, as well as parts of Lee county.
