Gutenberg Times will host a live Q&A webinar titled Layout, Layout, Layout on January 11, 2023 at 5:00 PM ET (US & Canada) via Zoom. This event is open to his WordPress users of all experience levels who want to learn more about how to use WordPress layout features while building a site using blocks.

Joining host Birgit Pauli-Haack are WordPress veterans Isabel Brison, Andrew Serong, and Justin Tadlock. Brison will demonstrate various layouts of her scenarios during her presentation, and attendees will be able to participate in questions.

Those of you who have tried laying out designs in WordPress have probably tried container blocks that provide layout settings. These blocks include Columns, Cover blocks, and generic Group blocks.

This event describes how to manipulate the layout by defining the width of the post content, aligning the block horizontally or vertically, aligning it right or left, aligning it inside a container block, etc. .

“Layout is a complex feature when it comes to block styling, as it affects child blocks in ways that go beyond CSS inheritance,” Pauli-Haack said.

WordPress 6.1 introduced more layout controls and block editor flexibility, but according to Pauli-Haack, the updated layout support dev notes are written for developers.

“Feedback from users through the FSE program and other connections has made it clear that the handling of container block layout settings is not particularly intuitive and requires trial and error to find the right combination. ‘ she said. “Live Q&A helps us understand our users and #nocode site builders better.”

When Pauli-Haack launched Live Q&A in 2018, she regularly brought in guests who build block editors to meet users and discuss features like full site editing, block themes, case studies, and more. I intended to get it. Task.

“Since then, quite a few initiatives of official WordPress projects have materialized,” she said. “Her editing her outreach her program on her full site, led by Anne McCarthy, who now hosts regular hangouts with her members and contributors in the community, is a huge success. ”

People are also learning the ins and outs of site editing through the efforts of our training team, who have begun creating courses and lesson plans and hosting workshops on Meetup.com in 2021. These are recorded and uploaded to WordPress.tv and YouTube. WordPress.org also launched a blog for developers in November 2022. With all these new learning opportunities, Pauli-Haack is shifting the focus of live events.

“Gutenberg Times Live Q & As explores topics and discussions around more complex concepts, case studies, and cutting-edge technologies,” she said. Most recently, Brock covered developer and digital strategy for her Pew Research Center, a high profile site built with her first approach.

“We also plan to host a live Q&A with the developers at GiveWP, who are using Gutenberg as a framework to build the next generation of popular donation plugins with components and scripts that Gutenberg uses. It’s in stages, but post or site editor,” said Pauli Haak.

She’s also planning another live Q&A with the WordPress VIP design team, who are working on design systems for businesses that need a streamlined way to stay within design standards. Pauli-Haack created a plugin they created that allows designers to automatically create her theme.json file for a website, with all the styling pulled directly from her Figma designs. I’m going to talk to them about

Upcoming Layouts webinars are free, but attendees will need to register to get the Zoom link. An archive of all past live Q&A events is available on the Gutenberg Times website. The best way to stay up to date on upcoming events is to subscribe to the Weekend Edition of Gutenberg Times. Subscribers will receive an early invitation to the next live Q&A.
