ChatGPT is getting a new real-time video assistant called Annie, which is unofficial as it was created by a Reddit user.
According to a Reddit post, qwerty flag stop (opens in new tab) Annie acts as a tutor for a wide range of topics, helping you practice that big speech or chat about your day. You can run
This post gives a quick rundown on how Annie is set up, including her face and how she responds. The original image of Annie’s face is generated in her Midjourney (her one of the best AI art her generator that can create amazing graphics in seconds) and her expressions and lip movements are real-time on your device. to match the generated audio. Her utterances are now generated by her ChatGPT.
As a big fan of AI chatbots, I wanted to give Annie a try and see if artificial intelligence could successfully offer a more “human” way of interacting.
(Image credit: Future) Annie has a somewhat friendly, non-threatening face and introduces herself as a 30-year-old digital freelancer. It was a strange and heart-pounding experience for her, with an irresistible sense of eerie cleavage when she moved her mouth.
The lip-syncing between Annie’s mouth and the words she’s saying is pretty good considering she’s generating speech from ChatGPT.
I spoke briefly with the bot for 30 minutes and was pretty impressed. Visit Annie’s official website (opens in new tab) , you can call Annie directly from the site or via the app for iOS or Android. If you call her through the app, you’ll see it’s set up to mirror her typical Facetime or video call, with a camera, mic, and end call button at the bottom.

She gave me book recommendations based on my favorite books – and they were actually very spot on in terms of genre – and what she thought about all the SpongeBob movies How you’re feeling. If you’re like me and spend enough time on ChatGPT, you’ll notice that the bot has a certain “tone” when Annie speaks.
uncanny valley When we were talking about her yoga habits, like when she explained the history of yoga to me, she tends to make jokes, but when you say “wait a minute” and she You can also trigger her to do a basic web search by saying, “Can you search the web?”
You can call from Annie’s website or app, but be prepared to be a little intimidated. Or very impressed, depending on your stance on AI advancement. There’s a creeping discomfort when you’re talking to her, especially when she’s listening to your questions. is always very calm, flickering between subtle facial expressions when she speaks, which made me feel a little strange because it felt like she was trying to be natural while being an AI.
When I’m using ChatGPT normally, there’s still a bit of creepiness to it. Speaking in a “human” way shows how inhuman it really is. One noted that in normal human-to-human conversations, people would veer off topic, interrupt each other, and ask follow-up questions. When I questioned Annie, she responded with a flow of information. While it’s helpful in some cases, especially when asking questions over text, it highlights how the interaction can go wrong when you have a human avatar.
That said, putting your face on makes it harder to chat. It’s easier to spill her guts on her DM than on Annie’s face, of course.
This is an early version of Annie, so there will undoubtedly be some bugs and hitches, but I’m sure we’ll see further updates and video calling features soon as it grows in popularity.
