JavaScript is no longer the top dog when it comes to the world’s most popular programming languages, according to a new report.
CircleCI’s 2022 State of Software Delivery Report (opens in new tab) found that TypeScript has overtaken JavaScript and beat out one of the biggest names in the industry to take the number one spot.
The company says the change is likely due to developer-friendly features. For example, it allows you to catch small errors locally, or commit working code more often than JavaScript.
top programming languages According to the report, only Python remains consistently popular from 2019 to 2021, with the language ranking fourth. Other top 10 languages include HTML, Java, and PHP.
Further down the list, HashiCorp (HCL) enters the top 10 list, coming in a respectable 9th place, with both HTML and Swift leading behind by 1st and 2nd places respectively.

The analysis also delved into other areas of the programmer’s workflow, revealing four key benchmarks that define some of the most successful engineering teams. These include an average workflow time of 5-10 minutes, recovery from failed executions that are fixed or reverted within an hour, a success rate of at least 90% for the default branch of the application, and, according to business requirements, at least Includes a scheduled deployment once a day. .
