Josh Duggar’s federal prison sentence has been extended, inmate records show.
Duggar has previously appeared in reality TV shows 19 Kids and Counting, In December 2021, he was convicted of possession of child sexual abuse material. In May he was sentenced to his 12.5 years in prison.

It wasn’t immediately clear why Duggar’s sentence was changed, but multiple tabloids reported in February that he was put in solitary confinement for carrying a contraband cell phone.
A spokesperson for the Federal Prison Service confirmed that Duggar’s new release date is accurate, but declined to comment on why.
“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) does not discuss inmate confinement conditions, including reasons for potential prison investigations or sanctions, or changes to release plans.” said a spokesperson.
Justin K. Gelfand, who represented Duggar’s trial, did not immediately respond to a request for comment by BuzzFeed News.
Evidence uncovered during his trial found that Duggar downloaded more than 600 photos and videos depicting child sexual abuse. said it contained videos of being flogged, threatened with knives and kept naked in dog cages. In the sentencing memo, Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Roberts said Duggar had a “deep, pervasive, and violent sexual interest in children.”
Duggar was previously accused of sexually abusing five girls, four of whom were his sisters, when he was a teenager. Duggar apologized in 2015 for what he said was an “unforgivable” act after reports of his allegations were made public.
“His past behavior provides a disturbing window into the extent of his sexual interest in children,” Roberts said.
Ahead of sentencing, the mother of an unidentified child who appeared in sexual abuse content downloaded by Duggar released a statement highlighting the repercussions of his crime.
“My daughter is a real person. Every time she is given or sold, she is exploited anew.”

Duggar continues to maintain his innocence and seeks to overturn his convictions through appeals.
