Jurgena Kamberaj is a senior researcher in the Risk and Resilience Team at the Security Research Center (CSS) at ETH Zurich. Her research focuses on disaster preparedness and the impact of environmental crises and emergencies on individuals, communities, and the environment.
Jurgena holds a master’s degree in environmental science from Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel, specializing in ecosystem services and environmental protection. Before she joined CSS in 2023, she worked on the JRC-EU Commission on Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction. There she assisted European civil protection and humanitarian aid efforts with daily monitoring of atmospheric phenomena and impact assessment of global environmental disasters.
Jurgena’s previous involvement in ecological disruption at the Azorean Biodiversity Group and Wageningen University reinforced her enthusiasm to pursue a career as a policy consultant promoting sustainable and resilient approaches to disaster management. . She is a strong advocate of biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience and has worked with several youth organizations. Jurgena has also received scholarships and fellowships from the autonomous regions of Trento and Bolzano/Bosen, Italy.
