Given the ongoing concerns about COVID-19, last year’s LCAT passenger numbers were strong.

There were about 30,000 rides last year, about the same as in 2021, according to director Shane Brunner.

LCAT currently has two routes for riders in County Lyon, in addition to routes within the city limits of Emporia. Transport Director Janice Urb said the recent response from the county of Lyon has been astonishing.

Due to local demand, LCAT drivers have taken residents to eastern Kansas and neighboring states such as Nebraska and Oklahoma. Demand for regional buses is ahead of pre-COVID figures, Erb said. Riders are asked to give two weeks’ notice to ensure bus and driver availability.

According to Erb, demand for Emporia buses has increased since COVID-19. Residents wishing to use local demand buses are required to give 24 hours’ notice.
