MiChart software vendor Epic is rolling out a new upgraded software platform.upon Sunday 9th July, Michigan Medicine migrates MiChart to this new platform. See the MiChart Platform project page for updates.
The new platform offers the following benefits:
- Improved performance and response time
- Simplify technical processes during software upgrades
- Increased software deployment flexibility
- More development options to improve functionality, visual appeal
Customers won’t notice any difference in how they access MiChart, but there are some changes within the application.
Major new features and updates:
- The new User Identifier menu provides easy access to common user settings for adjusting MiChart’s look and feel.
- Rearranged the search bar below the epic button and added basic math and unit conversion functionality.
- The new Notification Hub makes it easy to see and access your In Basket, Secure Chat, and other system notifications.
- Improved patient search to reduce click fatigue.
- Sticky Notes now supports dot phrases and spell checking.
- The Analytics Catalog replaces the Reporting Workbench Library and My Reports activities.
- On kiosk machines, MiChart will auto-start when you log in, but can be closed when not in use.
Practice environment
A practice environment featuring changes accompanying the MiChart platform upgrade is now available to all users. MiChart users access through Virtual Places (https://vplaces.med.umich.edu). This is the same practice environment used to upgrade MiChart. This will allow the user to experience the upgrade changes before his July 9th go-live.
Select the Epic MiChart Practice Upgrade Environment icon to log in. Detailed instructions for accessing the practice environment, including login and patient information, can be found at the link below. Note – You must be logged in to access MiChart information.?
User Experience Lab
To prepare for new features within the platform upgrade, MiChart users are invited to join the User Experience Lab to test their daily workflows in a hands-on environment. Labs provide an opportunity to identify the impact of changes and provide feedback to the MiChart project team.

Be sure to indicate your role and location so HITS can better predict the types of users and applications that need support.
Labs are available to all users, but are intended for clinical users. Please note that the revenue cycle will have pre-upgrade and post-upgrade virtual lab sessions. We will inform you of the date and time separately.
