Getting the most out of Microsoft Teams’ virtual backgrounds could actually be easier and more intuitive thanks to a new release from the company.
The video conferencing service announced in March 2023 that it will introduce green screen technology that improves the detail and accuracy of virtual backgrounds and blur effects without the need for additional software or hardware.
Now, the company has revealed more details about how the new tool will work and how it believes green screens can take Microsoft Teams calling to the next level.

Users must ensure that they have a plain screen or background wall behind them to use this feature. This should be a flat area free of dirt and other irregularities. Also, the background color should be chosen carefully so that the background and blur effects are applied correctly and look high quality.
Steberl reminded users that they should apply a background effect in Teams meetings before enabling the green screen effect. Video Effects > Green Screen Settings In the background section, toggle the options below Teams Settings -> Devices -> Green Screen .
He warned that enabling Green Screen automatically disables Background Blur and Together mode, but this does not apply to Standout, Side by Side and Reporter, PowerPoint Live Standout, Background Replacement ( JPEG/PNG), compatible with several presenter mode options. .
Microsoft Teams green screen is currently only supported on Windows and macOS devices with Intel and AMD chips. Apple Macs with M1/M2 hardware do not yet have this feature.
