So sometimes we get hints about local websites that have been hacked, defaced or compromised in some way. Such information has increased in the last few days, as a large number of websites (mostly well-known organizations) were compromised. As with many cases we have seen, it does not appear that these hackers targeted these companies with malicious intent. It’s just a vulnerability that random script kiddies run into.
A recent wave of compromises appears to target specific vulnerabilities in Joomla-powered websites. Hackers basically uploaded malicious files to some directories of the website. The hack itself (See University of Zimbabwe example above) are not visible to site visitors, but may add malicious content to the site that may harm the visitor without the knowledge of the site owner. is shown. I’m assuming that a fix for that vulnerability has been released, but these websites have not been patched.
Here is a partial list of websites known to have been compromised. The link is to the screenshot we captured, so don’t be afraid to click it.

Seeing that most of these websites use Joomla CMS, do you think there is something inherently insecure about Joomla? Is it just showing the platform it’s on and leaving it unpatched naturally hits more Joomla sites than other CMSes?
