Her name is Stephanie Crosman and she lives in Vinalhaven. All of her art, from her tiny stems to her tourist-attracting handbags, is made with the medium she’s given: fishing nets. Also known as a traditional knotted net.

Crossman was spotted engaging in this activity at a booth at the Camden Windjammer Festival on September 2nd. She said she was in the process of doing four shows in five weeks.

She also said that her skills, while traditional, are unusual. She learned it from her husband’s great-grandmother, Gram J (Lena Johnson). Gram J worked until she was 96, and Crosman inherited not only her skills, but her specialized tools as well.
