Olivia Steward, a Valdosta State University student from Flowery Branch, Georgia, has earned Blazer Creed Award citizenship. She graduated from her VSU with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in her Fall 2022 semester. Dr. Richard A. Carvajal, President of the University. and Heidi Cox, Director of the Internal Audit Office.

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University recently recognized an elite group of students, faculty, and staff for their unwavering commitment to stand by The Blazer Creed in everything they do. Flowery, Georgia Her branch student, Olivia Steward, was one of them.

As The Blazer Creed puts it, VSU is a learning environment based on trust and mutual respect, where open dialogue, lively debate and free exchange of ideas are welcome. The university is dedicated to core community values, including a commitment to practice:

Courtesy — Blazers show courtesy and consideration and respect the dignity of all human beings.

Integrity — Each Blazer is responsible for their actions, and our community is stronger when we consider the context of our decisions and uphold the principles of trust and integrity.

Citizenship — All Blazers care about the well-being of their communities, so they have a duty to stay informed, make positive contributions, and provide assistance to those in need.

The steward exemplifies what it means to be a blazer, to treat others with courtesy, to act honestly, to have strong moral principles, to work hard, and to help others. I graduated from VSU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Fall 2022.

VSU News: You have received citizenship at the Blazer’s Creed Award. Why is it important to have this personality trait and what role does it play in modern society?

Steward: It is important to have the character of a good citizen in order to serve and help the community around you. Citizenship plays a role in society by doing small or big things that can have a big impact on someone and their life to help them achieve their goals.

The Blazer Creed Awards Program is part of VSU’s annual Ethics Awareness Week awards.

VSU is committed to the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct.
