The notorious LockBit ransomware operator claims to have stolen sensitive data belonging to SpaceX in what appears to be a supply chain attack.
As reported by Security Affairs, the group compromised the systems of Maximum Industries, a full-service parts production and contract manufacturing company that also serves SpaceX.
For the (few) uninitiated, SpaceX is an American spacecraft maker and satellite communications company founded by eccentric billionaire Elon Musk. He became famous for successfully building a rocket that could land on Earth, saving the space industry billions of dollars.
thousands of drawings Maximum Industries is currently being hacked, and according to LockBit, around 3,000 “drawings certified by SpaceX engineers” have been provided to the hackers.
“I would have been lucky if the SPACE-X contractor was more talkative.
Elon Musk helps you sell your drawings to other manufacturers. And now about the numbers: about 3,000 drawings certified by space-x engineers.”
LockBit claims the data will be put up for auction within a week in order to extract maximum value from the stolen files. However, in the absence of samples and the silence of both SpaceX and Maximum Industries, it is difficult to determine what the database actually contains.
LockBit is one of the most popular ransomware. (opens in new tab) There are variants. In his four years, he successfully compromised over 600 companies and posted sensitive data on their sites. Not all targets are high profile, but LockBit has had some major “hits” recently, including Lisbon Port Authority and his LA Housing Authority.
