Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and KDDI Corporation have concluded a basic agreement on standardization in the field of optical networks. The agreement aims to standardize and promote the utilization of the strengths of both companies in optical network technology. This includes their respective strengths in optical transmission technology and mobile network technology. The goal is to foster open innovation with partners around the world, work towards standardization, and spread innovative communication technologies around the world around all-photonics networking.
NTT and KDDI have long been leaders in research and design of optical networks in Japan. The two companies will collaborate on research and development of large-capacity optical communication systems for domestic backbone transmission lines.
