NAIROBI, KENYA, January 31 – President William Ruto’s Cabinet has taken the first steps towards realizing a digitization drive for government after holding its first paperless session at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday.

The Presidential Communications Service on Tuesday shared a photo from the cabinet in which the head of state was seen taking charge of the session without paperwork or files.

The development is a follow-up to the President’s directive to the Chief Cabinet Secretary on 6 January to step up the administration’s efforts to ensure that it is paperless in its service delivery to Kenyans.

In his outgoing cabinet, President Ruto said the paperless system would soon be replicated in all government departments.

“It will be expected to leverage technology to make government more efficient,” he said.

He blamed traditional business practices for poor service delivery.

He emphasized that the introduction of technology eliminates all kinds of bureaucracy.

“I think it’s time for Kenyans to value the resources at their disposal to pursue their own agenda,” he said.

Kenya’s Kwanzaa government manifesto relies heavily on technology to deliver on its promises to voters.
