St. Scholastica claimed the first two baseball victories of the season as part of a seven-game Florida trip that ended Saturday.
The Rasmut Invitational in Auburndale and Davenport, Fla., lost 13-7 to Central on Sunday, 14-4 to William Patterson on Monday, and 15-0 to Mount Saint Mary (NY) on Monday. and started in 8th place. A -2 loss to Simpson on Tuesday, a 7-0 loss to Wisconsin-Lacrosse on Thursday, a 7-2 victory over Ramapo on Friday and a 5-4 loss to Ohio Northern on Saturday.
The game for Central was tied after eight innings when Central scored six in the top of the ninth. Jake Sheronka hit a double in his three-hit game. He had two more hits in a loss to William Patterson.
In a big win over Mount St. Mary, pitchers Grant Tybal and Joe Talmage had two-hit shutouts and three players went offensively for two-hit games.
Sheronka and Ryan Garlic each had two hits in the loss to Simpson. Alex Harpayoki recorded his two of his six hits for the Saints in a shutout loss in his cross game, and achieved a grand slam against Ramapo.
In the finale against the Ohio Northern, Mitchell Novak went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
The Saints (2-11) will face Bethany Lutheran in Minnesota for the first time on Friday. Their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic will have his conference opener on April 1 at St. Mary’s and his home opener on April 12 against Concordia.
The Saints set a winning record on public roads
St. Scholastica Softball played 10 games in Florida this week, going 6-4 and going outdoors for the first time this season.
The Saints opened the game on Sunday, March 12 against Thriller vs. North Park, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and a walk-off sacrifice fly by CSS pitcher Ashley made it 6–5 in the eighth inning. I won. Mateika.
Washington College beat CSS 7-5 in the second game of the day despite a Samantha Paniagua homer and four RBIs.
On Monday, the CSS lost 6-3 to Russell in the opening game, but Emma Bolin went 2-4 in stolen bases. They defeated Ripon 2–0 in five innings when Hayley Rosenthal pitched a two-hit shutout.
CSS defeated Wesleyan 10-5 and Beloit 6-1 on Tuesday. Lauren Laviano went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI against Wesleyan, and against Beloit, Savannah Romero scattered eight Beloit hits in a complete game in the pitcher’s circle.
After an off day, Bolin and Madison Blade had two hits and one RBI, respectively, in a 6–4 decision against St. Mary’s, Indiana.
The trip ended on Friday with a 9-6 loss to Lake Forest and a 5-1 loss to Knox. Against the Foresters, Paniagua hit a home run and his three RBIs. Meanwhile, against Knox, Peyton Lang’s RBI single was his only one of his three CSS hits.
The CSS (10-6) will start MIAC play at Hamline on April 1 and will start their home schedule on April 2 against St Benedict.
