Gunsan Air Force Base, Republic of Korea —
This week’s Pride of the Pack is Staff Sgt.
The 35th FS was without command support staff for about five weeks until the new CSS NCOIC, Estrella Cespedes, came to the rescue. And he ran to the ground.
During the process, he corrected the records of 15 members and was also able to complete two more processes. He also found time to get units on track with member progress reports, and even found things that were missed during understaffing. By the end of his first week, he had also stepped up to take on additional duties for DDR personnel, making Pantone 100% accountable for him.
“This job is challenging,” says Estrella Cespedes. “I’m always attentive. My favorite part is interacting with people. Working as a CSS, I’m the first person to stop by when people come into the squadron and see how great we are. I can show them that I am good.”
His previous experiences with Pantone, though brief, made as big an impression on him as he did on them.
“This is my first time in a fighter squadron,” he said. “It’s amazing. It was amazing for me to have this opportunity.”
When asked what it means to be recognized for his efforts, he admitted it was a complete surprise.
“I didn’t expect[to be Pride of the Pack]and it didn’t come this early. I’ve only been here three weeks. It shows that hard work pays off and I’m proud of myself.” I am proud of myself.”
Thank you, sergeant. Estrella Cespedes, for keeping everything up so the Pantone pilot could take off and complete the mission. Gunsan is ready to fight tonight is an extraordinary airman doing an extraordinary job!
