The UConn men’s basketball team’s glorious past and exciting future will be showcased this weekend at the Spalding Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Stephon Castle and Jayden Ross are part of UConn’s proud ‘Fab Five’ recruiting class, ranked #4 in the nation by 247Sports.com, and will play in Saturday’s event.
Castle, who is Georgia’s 6-6 guard, according to 247Sports.com and ranks 20th in overall recruits in the nation according to 247Sports.com, will join his Newton (Georgia) high team at 1 p.m. Play against IMG Academy. This match will be broadcast on his BallerTV.
On Saturday at 3pm, Ross will help lead the Long Island Lutherans against Oak Hill Academy in a game televised on ESPN. Ross is a 6-7 forward in the nation where he is rated as the 135th recruit.
Castle and Ross will join UConn’s 2023 Recruiting Class alongside Jaylin Stewart, Solomon Ball and Yusuf Singale.
Meanwhile, Ray Allen will also be at home. Allen, the only Hall of Famer in the UConn men’s program, will coach Gulliver He Prep in Florida against Notre Dame West Haven on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The event kicks off Thursday at 3pm when the Northwest Catholics face Newton, Massachusetts North. One of his top tier in 2025 and being recruited by UConn, his 6-8 forward Badaladia Kite will play for the Northwest. Windsor High School, Suffield Academy and East His Catholic High School will also participate in the event. Sacred Heart Academy will also be her one of several participating women’s teams.
The main draw, of course, is some of the top domestic recruits, including 247Sports.com’s top five domestic recruits: Isaiah Collier (going to USC), DJ Wagner, Justin Edwards, Aaron Bradshaw (all going to Kentucky) and Mackenzie Mbako (Duke).
The biggest draw, though, may be Sierra Canyon Schools playing Christopher Columbus Schools on Monday at 1pm. Sierra Canyon will feature Combo Guard Bronnie James, the #40 recruit in the 2023 class. He also happens to be the son. The story of an NBA player named LeBron James.
