Today’s Brant County resident, Andrew Owens, is an impressive young man. As his senior year at Southeastern High School, he is looking forward to his graduation and has big ambitions to go out into the world. Awarded a dean’s scholarship, Andrew plans to attend Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois in the fall. He is pursuing his UX Design degree, with both his minors in Game Design and Creative Writing.
With a passion for video games and writing, Andrew’s choice of degree seems like a perfect fit for his desire to become a UX designer with user experience. He looks forward to evaluating video game features and improving them from his own experience.
While in high school, Andrew was active in a variety of extracurricular activities, including participating in the Student Voice program, a member of the Yearbook staff, and serving as SGA President. The Student Voices Program is something Andrew is very passionate about. He strongly believes that all students should have peer representation when decisions are made at the senior level.
Last summer, Andrew had the honor of traveling to Washington, DC with other Alabama Student Voice members. One of their missions on that trip was to advocate the creation of a statewide student council to ensure student representation and input when important decisions affecting education were made. was to do The group wanted to draw attention to the needs and problems facing students, both general and specific.
When not advocating for students or playing video games, Andrew enjoys hanging out with friends and writing. He genuinely enjoys writing stories involving characters that have deep, rich and compelling storylines.
Andrew takes great pleasure in being a “person” who interacts with others. He loves spending time with his family. Every day he stops by to check on how her grandmother is doing, visit her and help her with whatever tasks she needs to do.
The next few months will fly by, and Andrew will soon be attending college far away, but I have no doubt that he will be a star, stay focused on his goals, and achieve great things.
