LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – The Lincoln Police Department took a 14-year-old boy into custody on burglary charges after three cars were stolen Tuesday morning.

LPD believes all three cases are connected and all cars are left unlocked and running to warm up.

  1. 7:20 am – South 14th and Rose Street: A 2020 Lexus UX worth $35,000 was seized and later installed near 17th and K streets.
  2. 7:49 a.m. – North 17th and Fairfield Streets: A 2017 Toyota Sienna worth $17,000 was seized and later found near N 9th Avenue between Groveland and Judson Streets.
  3. 8:24 AM – North 10th Avenue and Claremont Street: A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu worth $2,000 was seized and later found near 38th and Adams.

Witnesses saw the man park and get out of the car in the last case, according to LPD. Officers contacted a man in the area who fled them, but was found with the help of a police service dog.

Officers said they saw the man get out of the car.

The suspect was identified as a 14-year-old juvenile and referred on suspicion of felony theft with unlawful removal. The LPD said the boy was handed over to his mother.

Police are urging drivers not to leave their vehicles unattended.
