Trustees Hold Final Fall Semester Meeting – USC News & Events

The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees met on Tuesday (December 13). Here are the actions they took at the meeting:

Approved contracts and projects

Various contracts and projects recommended by several committees and approved by the entire board include:

• a service agreement between USC Beaufort and The Evaluation Group to help administer a new grant from the U.S. Department of Education;
• a service agreement between Dominion Energy South Carolina LLC and the USC facility for the supply of natural gas to college campuses;
• renovation of the Taylor House for use in several law school programs,
• Enhancement of the Teaching Biology Lab on the 3rd Floor of the Jones Center for Physical Sciences,
• USC Upstate Library/Classroom Building Expansion and Renovation,
• contract extension for Associate Head Football Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Pete Lembo;
• and the employment contract of offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Dowell Loggains.

The Board also approved the minutes of past meetings and revisions to the Board Bylaws and Policies.

System-wide academic change

Several system institutions received approval for tenure and promotion, as well as academic amendments. Columbia campus approvals include:

• 35 tenure and promotion recommendations,
• tenure transfer to another academic unit,
• Lifetime employment for 3 people,
• 9 honorary degrees,
• New Undergraduate Certificate in Digital Studies,
• Integrating 3 existing programs into 1 MA in Psychology with 3 concentrations,
• Addition of two concentrations to M.Ed. in language and literacy,
• Addition of concentration to ME in civil engineering,
• Changed the name of the Faculty of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management to the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management,
• Completion of Bachelor’s Degree Certificate in Biomedical Research.

Aiken Campus approvals include:

• Addition of 100% online delivery for BS in Business Administration focused on Finance and Marketing,
• The name of the Department of Mathematical Science was changed to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

The Upstate Campus Approval includes:

• Lifetime employment 1 person,
• four honorary degrees,
• Physicians in the New Nursing Practice Program,
• and a new center for justice and society.
