Finally, Windows 11 may allow users to force quit frozen apps from the taskbar.
If you use your Windows laptop or desktop PC regularly, you’re probably used to the pain of having to force quit an app that no longer works. This is because Windows doesn’t have that option when you right-click an app in the taskbar, unlike macOS.
That may change soon, as reported by tom’s hardware (opens in new tab) Microsoft is now adding[タスクの終了]It looks like you are working on adding more options.
In the latest Windows 11 Insider build, Build 23430,[設定]>[プライバシーとセキュリティ]>[開発者向け]You can enable it by going to It’s not actually working yet. According to the same report, it doesn’t show up when enabled in this version, and turns back off when you close the settings window. Apparently, when I use the ViveTool GUI utility app it appears in the right-click menu, but when I click on it, nothing happens.
Also interesting is that in its current state the “End Task” option is disabled by default and is in the developer’s menu. This can deter the general public for fear of doing anything to a system they don’t know how to fix.
Still, this finding indicates that Microsoft may be making the Force Quit option easily accessible to all users, and we think it will be a welcome update.
Force quitting apps in Windows is troublesome To exit a program on Windows that is currently essentially frozen, tap the X button or[ウィンドウを閉じる]I can’t shut down by clicking the option or pressing Alt+F4. You should open Task Manager or Windows Command Prompt. Close the offending app from there. Or, worse, you have to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to shut down the entire system.
So this is not an exact process and many Windows unsavvy users often have to Google “how to kill an app in Windows”. We recognize that Windows madness has its way. Force quitting the app can corrupt your files. But the lack of a convenient way to do so has baffled my existence, and I’m certainly not the only one here.
