Wisconsin Technology Council: BPC Participants Can Share Various Prizes, Cash in 2023 Governor’s Business Plan Contest

Madison, Wisconsin – Coworking spaces, legal services, and accounting services are just a few of the prizes that can be won by applicants in the 2023 Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest. This year’s prize pool also includes cash, approaching $125,000.

Contestants have until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 to submit a 250-word business idea.

Since the competition began in 2004, more than 4,450 entries have been received from 333 Wisconsin communities. The finalist has so far shared her over $2.5 million in cash and “in-kind” prizes (legal, accounting, office space, marketing, etc.). For many participants, these services provide a significant jumpstart to getting their business off the ground. Past sponsorships include:

The sponsor currently contributing to the prize pool is Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. Madison Gas & Electric; UW-Madison Office of Business Engagement; Versity; Aberdeen Consulting; Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation;

Past finalists have launched companies that have raised $300 million in grants, loans, and private equity financing while creating jobs and economic value for Wisconsin. At various points in time, three-quarters of her contest finalists said they were still in business.

Any company or individual that has not received angel or venture capital for the scheme in its current form is eligible to participate. Funding from friends and family, accelerators and non-dilutive grants is generally permitted.

The 20th The annual competition culminates in a live presentation by “Diligent Dozen” at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Conference in June. Additionally, any participant can attend his February 22nd “boot camp” in Milwaukee.
