Withings has released a new smart scale, the Withings Body Smart. This is a mid-range smart scale with a new Eyes Closed mode that hides the pounds and kilograms on the scale for a motivational message.
Withings has been making some of the best smart scales for a while, but the Withings Body Smart is cheaper. Currently in the US on his website at Withings he sells for $99.95. (opens in new tab), UK and Australian prices have yet to be revealed. Like other Withing scales (and the best smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro), it uses bioimpedance analysis to calculate body composition and weight.
Bioimpedance analysis (BIA) sends an electrical current through the soles of your feet and into your body, passing through fat, muscle and bone. The electric current passes through these substances at varying speeds, giving you an idea of how much substance you have in your body. It provides your metabolic age (a number based on your actual age compared to your physical health), your heart rate, and much more.

This isn’t new to the Withings line, but the addition of Eyes Closed mode is. Your scale tracks your weight as usual, so your overall weight affects other health metrics, such as your body mass index. However, the scale doesn’t show your weight, it just gives you motivational tips, weather and other information in case you’re planning on exercising outdoors.
