A new list of the safest vehicles on the road is out. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety publishes this list every year, but this year it has made the requirements even more stringent.
IIHS reviewed the 2023 models and 48 vehicles were awarded.
They had to provide excellent occupant protection in crash tests (three frontal crash tests and side crash tests), as well as crash-prevention technology such as proper headlights and frontal collision avoidance technology.
And these features needed to be available on all trims and packages, not just the more expensive ones.
The top prize went to the Acura Integra in the compact car category, as well as the Subaru Outback and Toyota Camry. midsize car.
for Small SUVthe winners were Honda CR-V and HR-V, Lexus UX and Subaru Electric Solterra.
for midsize SUVHyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent, Toyota Highlander, EV Volkswagen iD.4.
for minivanHonda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna took top honors.
Toyota Tundra is large pickup truck category.
in the Mid-size luxury SUV Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Volvo and Tesla models all scored the highest in the category.
“This year’s biggest winner was Toyota, with 15 winners. Honda won eight and Mazda won six,” said IIHS President David Harkey. “I think the disappointment this year, as in previous years, is the lack of domestic automakers.”
This year, several electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles take top honors, from Tesla to the new Rivian.
